5 Tips on Hiring the right Traffic Control Company

1. RMS Accreditation

This sounds fairly straight forward but its really important to ask for these details before a Traffic Controller (TC) steps on site. Why?

Well, if you randomly get audited and the TC does not have the right card on them its going to cost $$$.

If their card has expired or is not approved by RMS guidelines, you’re in for a shocker.

-> Small fine for the TC Approx $2000 in NSW

-> Large fine for the Client (thats you ) & the TC company as well Approx $50,000

2. Up to Date SWMS’s

Again, basic protocol but Safety is the forefront of everything we do.

A Safety Work Methods Statement is crucial for all jobs according to WorkSafe Australia and if your crew does not have one you could put the safety of you workers and company in jeopardy.

The last thing you want is to cop a hefty fine if a worker injures themself on your job site.

3. Presentation

This is all about how your traffic controller companies present themselves on site.

->Do they wear full PPE?

->Do they greet pedestrians as they work past?

->Are they the best representation for your company?

We know, motorists don’t like to be held up on their journey so its easy for them to get furious. You want to make sure the company you hire look great and treat drivers with respect so that your company looks presentable all the time.

4. Well Organised

Well, you’d definitely hope so but I had to mention this because of the horror stories I keep hearing of Traffic Controllers not rocking up to site.

Jobs get delayed or cancelled.

Rebook all the subcontractors

Breaks the budget.

Its easy amongst the chaos to lose a booking, you definitely want to make sure your company have a system in place to ensure this never happens.

5. Planning

With the TMC and RMS cracking down, planing is the most important thing you do for your site. Before you start, make sure you have the relevant paperwork so profits of the job remain in your pocket.

Ask if they are competent with:

->Road Opening Permits (ROPs)

->Road Occupancy Licenses (ROL)

->Traffic Control Plan (TCP)

->Traffic Management Plans (TMP)
